I first heard of this recipe when I was feeling under the weather myself and I decided to research what kinds of recipes I could make that used an abundance of garlic. I have recently started to discover the health benefits of garlic (as well as obsess over the smell of it) so I was aware that garlic is pretty amazing at fighting against major colds, flus and many types of viruses because of one of garlic’s major chemical components- allicin. Garlic is useful in helping with digestion, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, and most of all killing viruses and bacteria that spread to diseases andRead More →

Although it has been around for centuries, ice wine has become extremely popular as of lately and ice winery tours have been filling up with interested tourists who want to get their hands (and mouths) on a bottle of ice wine. I first heard of ice wine while on a Niagara-on-the-Lake tour of 4 different wineries. We stopped at Inniskillin Winery where we were offered a taste of their finest selection of ice wine and then given a tour on how the ice wine is made; turns out it’s a lot more work than regular wine. Ice wine (also called dessert wine) was first created inRead More →

One day, I would LOVE to own and operate my own winery. I love wine (clearly) and have dreamed of creating my own adorable little wine ship by the vineyards where I make wine and live life to the fullest, watching people enjoy my product. My love of wineries started when my friend decided to have her birthday at a small winery at Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was an adorable little cottage themed setting with delicious smells and beautiful sights of the vast fields of grapes marking their territory. We enjoyed wood-oven pizza for lunch that tasted like angels carved and created the sauce with their ownRead More →

Believe it or not, tea was once used as solely a herbal remedy to help sore throats and sickness. Today, it used not just to treat colds but also largely used for pleasure. I look forward to waking up in the morning and making my tea of the day because it literally soothes my soul when I’m at work and makes my morning commute that much more bearable. Aside from purchasing (sometimes too much) tea from David’s Tea, receiving tea in monthly subscription boxes and making impulse purchases in random grocery stores, sometimes I enjoy steeping my own tea with herbs, spices, etc. I likeRead More →

I know I usually write about healthy and wellness living, considering I am extremely passionate about what I do and what I write about on a daily basis. BUT, with the spirit of Christmas in the air and the holidays less than two weeks around the corner, a dessert recipe is needed, no, it’s MANDATORY! I have many, many, many favourite recipes to make around Christmas but I decided to share one that I haven’t made in a couple of years. This recipe pretty much appeals to anyone who likes chocolate, cherries, and a luscious graham cracker-buttery crust. Need I convince you more that youRead More →

For those avid tea drinkers out there like myself, I’m sure most of you are satisfied when you wake up in the morning, look in the cupboard to choose the lucky tea of the day, and start brewing that tea, excitedly waiting to consume the goodness that will calm your bones and soothe your soul. I probably drink about 2-4 cups of tea a day and I like to sample just about every flavor on a daily basis so that I know what to buy in bulk the next time I visit a tea store or order online. When I was making my weekly roundsRead More →

I went to my boyfriend’s house this weekend and realized that after not seeing him for about a week, he had come down with a cold. We’re talking a nasty, phlegm-filled, runny nose type of cold. It’s not like I could just take off because the poor guy was sick, so of course I stayed accepting that I would likely have the same fate the next morning. After spending a day there, sure enough I woke up the next morning and had the same stuffy and runny nose. While we were relaxing watching the hockey game, I had this ‘eureka’ moment where I remembered this recipe thatRead More →

If you love red wine, you have probably heard on the regular that red wine can be used to cure just about anything- in moderation, that is. If you’ve ever watched the show How I Met Your Mother and you saw the episode where a pregnant Lily visited Doctor Sonia whose common catchphrase was “Just a little bit”, you’ll remember she told Lily that she could have “just a little bit” of wine. I don’t know anything about drinking wine while pregnant considering I’ve never had a baby, but I do know that Doctor Sonia’s logic with “just a little bit” is probably the bestRead More →

One of the best parts of December (besides Christmas of course) is strutting through the local mall and passing David’s Tea. I can literally smell the store from miles away, and they’re always standing at the door offering the tea of the day or other random samples of goodness for consumers to try out. Being a frequent steeper member and always looking to try new teas, I was AMAZED to see this fantastic advent calendar released in mid-November. Containing 24 teas (with containers full enough for 2, MAYBE EVEN 3, cups of tea each; you get to experience a slew of new winter/Christmas-y flavors on a dailyRead More →
