Beeswax Uses & Candles: East Van Bees

Today I’m reviewing a product that I have wanted to get my hands on for a loooong time but always feared the cost (I am likely the most frugal person you’ll ever come across). I’ve seen beeswax candles in a few local stores before and listened while the sales person raved about the benefits. After being convinced 5 seconds into the conversation, the little factor of the price was brought up and announced how pricey these little candles were (but for good reason of course). I still bit the bullet and purchased the candles, and didn’t regret my decision for a second.

Beeswax has a TOONN of uses (including a shoe polisher and baking sheet greaser) but I picked some of the more beauty/holistic health uses to explore:

Skin

Beeswax is produced by honey bees in bee hives, making it a completely natural product with many uses. One of the most notable uses of beeswax is for the skin, as beeswax contains moisturizing and softening properties including Vitamin A which work to lock moisture in the skin. Processed skin care products including parabens act as almost a barrier or a shield against your skin, while beeswax allows the skin to breathe.

Healing

Beeswax is anti-allergenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and is great at soothing irritated skin as well as helping to heal minor cuts, wounds, scrapes and abrasions. It is wonderful at protecting the skin from environmental irritants that can affect skin or from airborne chemicals that can make you sick.

Hair

Beeswax can be used as a wonderful substitute for hair gel or mousse as it moisturizes, smoothes and keeps hair in place. If you’re struggling with hair loss, beeswax can help  to naturally stimulate hair growth or stop hair from falling out.

Candles/Air Purifiers

Lastly; what I’m here to write about! Beeswax candles burn brighter and remove toxins from the air, releasing negative ions which negate positively charged entities such as pollen, dust, or other dirt circulating in the air. Neutralized ions are then sucked back into the candle as it burns; essentially acting as a lovely smelling air purifier.

While I purchased a beeswax candle about 6 months ago (it was gone in less than a week), I wanted to really experience the benefits of burning a beeswax candle. This is where East Van Bees came into the picture- they sent me their lovely Skep Beehive (3 Pack kit) for review.

East Van Bees is a company located in Vancouver, British Columbia. The owner owns over 50 hives which he accumulated over a time span of 7 years. He has done amazing things with his bee-keeping experience; he was diagnosed with cancer and after finishing chemo and radiation treatment, he wanted to share his knowledge and teach elementary school kids about what he does, as well as host hive tours.

I love his passion for his business and I love that he turned a hobby into a business. His wide variation of products include but are not limited to: raw urban honey, lip balms, beard oils, salves and even a pollinator bee blend which will help attract bees to your garden for pollination. His products won’t cost you an arm and a leg, and you can rest easy knowing you purchased completely natural and homemade products while supporting a small business.

All of our candles are made from 100% local Canadian beeswax. No paraffin wax fillers or coconut oil additives.

Beeswax releases negative ions when it burns. Pollen, dust, dirt, and any other junk in the air all carry a positive charge, and that is how they can be suspended in the air. The negative ions released from burning beeswax negate the positive charge of air contaminants, and the neutralized ions are sucked back into the burning candle or fall to the ground. Many air purifiers and water filters harness this effective negative ion technology.

Beeswax will burn clean and with no or very little soot. The wax is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and bio degradable. You could even eat it, although we don’t recommend that.

Beeswax will burn at a very high temp so will burn longer 2-5 times longer than other types of wax. You can even use our tea lights for a heat source!

Why I love these Candles/Final Thoughts

Beeswax has the ability to cleanse the air around you as well as burn 2-5 times longer than your average candle. I LOVE candles and have written tons of reviews on amazing candle companies, but I can’t get over the amazing benefits of beeswax and burning these candles in my home.
