Apple Cider Vinegar

I have never heard of or even considered that apple cider vinegar could be something that is beneficial for health. Isn’t vinegar supposed to be sour, bitter and acidic? I mean, I guess it never crossed my mind that shooting vinegar in the morning was something people do, but apparently the health benefits of this organic cider blend are seriously off the charts.  I’ve also heard of a few celebs and athletes who do shots of apple cider vinegar every morning. Talk about commitment!

As with most health trends, I started by doing my research into apple cider vinegar to see if it was really was worth my buck.

I found that not only has apple cider vinegar been used since 400 BC for energizing and healing, but it also has been regarded as a home remedy for centuries. I can understand why apple cider would be a beneficial health remedy but I never got why vinegar would be a good supplement to this.

As it turns out, the process of making apple cider vinegar is completely natural from the fermentation of apple juice to hard apple cider, and then followed by a second fermentation to apple cider vinegar. This natural product is fortified with extra enzymes and acids that are produced throughout both fermentation steps. Don’t you feel better already knowing no chemicals or preservatives have been added?

Uses

Just to name a few, apple cider vinegar can be used for the following:

  • Has been known to help with weight loss
  • Household usage as a disinfectant or deodorizer
  • Heal sunburns and insect bites
  • Natural conditioner for smooth and silky hair
  • Treat hair dandruff
  • Cures hiccups
  • Soothes a sore throat
  • Clears acne
  • Prevents indigestion
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Fades bruises

Unfiltered and Organic

If you are looking to try out apple cider vinegar, I also found that you should be aware of the many different kinds that exist on the market. Many are filtered/distilled which take away from the pure fermentation process, destroying the health benefits that come with completely natural apple cider vinegar.

Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar

In my quest to find the best apple cider vinegar out there, I came across the brand Bragg. Not only are they famous for their apple cider vinegar, but the product is unfiltered, unpasteurized, and contains the mother of vinegar. The mother is a cellulose substance made up of various Acetobacter, which is a very acidic strain of bacteria. This combines with oxygen in warm air to cause fermentation in order to produce vinegar. It is the mother that gives the vinegar its characteristic sourness.

What caught my attention about Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar was the fact that the product is completely organic, gluten-free, non-GMO and Kosher-Certified.

Result

I had read somewhere that people actually do shots of this stuff every morning for optimal health benefits. I was completely afraid of this at first seeing as a shot of vinegar doesn’t sound so appealing first thing in the morning, so I decided to try this out after eating dinner. I poured a literal gigantic shot of this bad boy into a shot glass intended for tequila, and I basically had a stomach ache for the remainder of my day. I later researched that you should avoid doing shots of this product due to its eroding properties on teeth enamel, and it also not being good for your stomach lining. Mixing 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with juice or water and drinking slowly would be best for those who want to take this on a daily basis.

Long-story short, buy organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar if you want to achieve optimal results. The key rule of thumb to remember would be; the less filtered and processed, the better!
