Earth to Table Bread Bar located in Hamilton, ON was suggested to me by a friend who worked in the Downtown area and had tried the fancy and authentic restaurants that I had never even heard of. My friend, being a vegan, also loved the idea of this restaurant for the vast variety of vegan options that accommodated her and her vegan sister, as well. I was completely non-bias walking into the restaurant, having never heard of it or even having seen what the outside looked like.
I walked in to find myself in a calm, sit-down atmosphere that almost looked like a small café, but had the features of a pizza place and a Starbucks all at once. We were seated close to the counter where I watched as people came in to pick up take-out pizzas. So not only was this place a sit-down restaurant, but also a take-out pizza place. I quickly learned from reading the many creative signs plastered around the restaurant as well as reading the menu and pizza ingredients at the front, that every single ingredient this establishment put into their food was quality, local ingredients. If it could be made in-house, it was. Much of the food was created from local food artisans with seasonal ingredients (aka, if its not grown in the winter, you won’t be eating it). The list of fresh bread on the menu along with beverages, cookies, soups, etc. also had you feeling like you were relaxing in a coffee shop.
I decided to try the famous pizza that I had seen at least 10 people in 20 minutes rush in to wait in line to try. It took about 20-30 minutes to make (average time for a busy restaurant) but when it arrived, it didn’t look like your average pizza. That was probably because it was an actual real pizza, with fresh and local ingredients. It looked like a wood-oven pizza that you receive at local wineries or top-scale restaurants.
I can promise you, this was the best pizza I’ve ever had. You can taste every ingredient and you can taste the FRESHness. You immediately can see the difference between this pizza and any chain restaurant pizza you have ever ordered from. No added preservatives, no chemicals; just fresh, home-made ingredients. If you like tomatoes and pizza sauce like I do (I have eaten a tomato whole on several occasions), you will absolutely swoon over this homemade tomato sauce. The dough is cooked to perfection with just the right amount of cheese and ingredients. I could have eaten this entire pizza but I needed to take some home and glorify its immaculate taste in front of my loved ones, just so they could see what they were missing out on (and why they had to go with me right away).
This is the only item on the menu I have tried, but they also carry amazing burgers, chicken, salad, soups, desserts and breakfast items.
If you ever get the chance to go, don’t hesitate, just go!
