I remember the craze when these matte lip kits first emerged on the market. You had to practically stalk Ms. Jenner’s social media accounts to find out when the next set of lip kits would be released on her website, and then click on whatever item you wanted as FAST as possible in order to secure your lip kit. Being from Canada also bit you on the ass considering the product was in USD and added an arm and a leg’s worth of shipping and handling. I definitely wondered a couple of times if it was really worth making the purchase just for a tube of lipstick and lip liner. Of course when I had purchased my kit, this was pretty much the only item on kyliecosmetics.com and it certainly wasn’t half as developed as it is today.
Never being a huge fan of the Kardashian/Jenner clan also sparked my hesitation towards purchasing this product. Sure, I had heard great reviews in the past but did I want to support someone who was already a billionaire? Especially with my drive and passion to support small businesses? As mentioned before, I try my best to support local/small businesses but not EVERY product I review supports this cause. If a product is really good and actually works, I have no problem supporting that product/company either.
I was thrilled when my purchase was successful and I received the confirmation e-mail that my Candy K Lip Kit had successfully been purchased. I received my package a couple of weeks later.
Cost: On the website, the cost says $29.00 USD. If you live in the USA, shipping is $8.95 and if you live internationally, it is $14.95 flat. This is a little much after you convert the cost to CAD, as it comes to over $60.00 for one lip kit.
Packaging: The lip kit arrives in a black box with Kylie Cosmetics smeared across the top in big letters. Once opened, a Thank-you card from Kylie herself falls out, on top of the lip kit which is in a much smaller packaging than the box. The only criticism I would apply here is the size of the initial black box, it could be a lot smaller as the actual lip kit itself is much smaller.
Colour: Of course every lip kit (especially the ones that exist now on her website) is of different colours. I ordered Candy K, which is a pinky nude colour that sits on the lips after a few hours with a peachy glow. I was hoping for it to be a bit more nude coloured, but regardless I was satisfied with the colour overall.
Smell: The product doesn’t really have a bad or wonderful smell, although it does smell a little flowery. I like that the scent isn’t strong and overbearing, but you definitely feel like what you’re putting on your lips isn’t garbage.
Usage: You don’t need a lot of this product to be satisfied. I don’t think I have ever had to dip the wand twice into the product while applying, you really only need one coat.
Result: The quality of this product turned out to be very good. I have worn it on several occasions for almost an entire day and it has never worn off; it stayed on perfectly. There were times it would slightly smudge or make my lips feel dry but I’m pretty sure that’s Matte lipsticks in general. It also delivers a really nice, smooth and flat colour to the lips. Worn with the lip liner, my small/thin lips look plumper and fuller.
So yes, I 100% recommend this product if you are willing to spend the money! Especially if you live in Canada or internationally and $60.00 seems like a lot, just think that you are spending the money on something that will likely last you over a year!
