I have always been a NEGATIVE person. I looked at every situation and every circumstance from a negative point of view. I regarded everything and anything that could happen to me as a result of a chain of bad events that would continue to happen in my life. I had been through a lot growing up and been raised by a single mother. I had been cheated on, lost some important people in my life, been denied jobs and scholarships, failed exams, had money stolen from me and watched people I love go through some pretty tortious circumstances in their own lives.
It wasn’t until I met my current boyfriend that I began to believe in positive energy and what mere thoughts can do for yourself. He taught me that thinking positively and turning bad situations into something good could literally change your entire outlook on life. Sure, I had been through a lot in my life but so has everyone else. People you pass by on a daily basis all have secret (or maybe public) turmoil’s that they are suffering through. There are many circumstances in our lives that we cannot control, but we can change the way that we look at those circumstances and therefore change our thoughts and our feelings.
I’ve been reading quite a few posts about how 2016 has been an awful year for people. Maybe it’s because of the current political situation in The USA, maybe it’s because of the current world affairs and conflicts happening all over the globe. We can sit back and we can cry about the current events going on in both our own personal lives and the issues occurring on a broader scale, or we can choose to instead focus on the positive.
Let’s take an example. It’s January 1st, 2017 and you have just celebrated New Years Eve, and said a happy farewell to 2016. You land on a couple of resolutions for the new year, and decide that no, absolutely not, you are NOT breaking your resolutions this year. Maybe your first resolution is to eat healthier. Instead of packing two extra pieces of fruit in your lunch for work and calling it a day, set goals for yourself on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis and surround yourself with only positive thoughts and energy in relation to that goal. If you have someone making fun of you for setting that goal, get rid of them. Surround yourself with only positive influences that will support you, not hinder you. Post positive messages on your wall, as your desktop background, your cell phone background, even include them in your lunch box. Have an agenda book and write down your goals. Start a ‘goal check-ins’ blog and talk about your successes, your failures, fears, thoughts, etc.
Imagine approaching this type of goal situation from a negative point of view. You would probably be motivated for a good week or so, packing a semi-healthy lunch and purposely taking the stairs at work. But thinking negatively will hinder that positive motivation you want so badly to build up. You will start to think “I’m not motivated enough for this”, “I can’t do this”, “I’m not good enough to reach the result I want”. If you keep thinking that you can do it, eventually your feelings will also change about yourself because your brain is emitting positive messages and thoughts. Positive thoughts leads to positive feelings!
This can literally be applied to any goal or situation that you are working towards in 2017. It doesn’t have to be a fitness goal, a health goal or any goal at all. Maybe you just want to be more of a positive person in the new year; awesome! Make a ‘positivity jar’ or a ‘positivity wall’ and write down good thoughts and messages every time you can think of one, and pull them or read them when you are feeling down. Maybe you don’t want to use any tools or resources to help you reach your goal. That’s fine, just start to change your thought process. Don’t let negativity enter your mind, develop a positive outlook on life and I can guarantee you that you will notice a huge difference!
