One day, I would LOVE to own and operate my own winery. I love wine (clearly) and have dreamed of creating my own adorable little wine ship by the vineyards where I make wine and live life to the fullest, watching people enjoy my product. My love of wineries started when my friend decided to have her birthday at a small winery at Niagara-on-the-Lake. It was an adorable little cottage themed setting with delicious smells and beautiful sights of the vast fields of grapes marking their territory. We enjoyed wood-oven pizza for lunch that tasted like angels carved and created the sauce with their own angel-inspired recipe. They paired chocolate, cheese and different types of nuts with a beautiful setting of red, white and sparkling wine.
After this point in my life, I asked myself why visiting wineries and booking annual wine tours and tastings had not been added to my to-do list yet? This was seriously the most elegant and classy event yet not too expensive, and most importantly fun!
When my boyfriend and I started dating we both discovered that we shared a mutual love for wine tours and tastings. We took our first tour together (also at Niagara Falls) and visited four wineries on a guided tour bus. We experienced all sorts of fun activities like tours, tastings, pairings, a sit down lunch paired with certain wines, and an opportunity to see where the wine is made. We drank and sampled wine with an array of other couples, we took pictures, bought wine, laughed, and continued to fill our system with amazing tasting, fresh wine straight from local wineries. We took a particular liking to ice wine and although quite expensive for a bottle (the lowest I’ve seen is $50), we decided to visit The Ice House Winery, also located in Niagara-on-the-Lake and enjoyed their premium Ice Wine Slushies, which were DIVINE.
Of course you obviously have to first enjoy wine in order to get everything you can out of the experience of visiting a winery, but you can pay a decent price to be taken on a 4-6 hour tour that offers tons of wine and usually snacks/lunch to go with it.
Wine tours and tastings make a great gift to your closest friend or family member who lives wine. Seriously, they don’t have to drive anywhere, they get to taste tons of different specialty wine, and they get to have fun with the person they love the most!
I recently bought a Beer, Cider and Wine voucher for another Niagara Falls wine tour/tasting and I can’t even comprehend how much I am looking forward to it. The scenery, the atmosphere, the wine, the food, the culture, the people, EVERYTHING contribute to making up the perfect little getaway.
