It’s my favourite time of the week- subscription box reviews! I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this lovely box shipped from Western Canada. I usually like to look for boxes that I can purchase that either support some kind of charity or carries items that are derived from small and local businesses. Fortunately for me, this box has both features! Every time you purchase a Calla Life Box, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a deserving charity. I know in the past, the company has worked with “I Can For Kids” to help end childhood summer hunger.
Cost: The box costs $38 dollars plus $10 shipping and handling. There are new plans that you can purchase if you would like to receive the box for a 3 month or 6 month subscription, where you save 5% on a 3 month and 10% on a 6 month subscription.
Box: The products are shipped in a plain brown cardboard box decorated with the brand logo and some other cute little stickers. I am actually very impressed with the company’s decision to box the products in a plain box as opposed to a decorated and colourful box, as Calla Life box has decided to take the money they could spend on a fancy box every month and donate it to a charity instead. I mean, if this doesn’t make you want this box even more then I don’t know what will. The box also came with cute purple cut up paper streamers and it smelled like actual heaven when I first opened it.
Products: The box comes with 5-8 full sized, hand made products from local and small businesses all over Canada. They are centered around the theme of health and wellness, which I absolutely adore. I also can’t emphasize enough how much I love supporting small businesses (especially Canadian businesses) so this box really fits me like a glove.
CherryT One One Co Vintage Northern Goods
The first thing I saw when I opened the box was a huge white piece of material. I had seen a spoiler picture of someone wearing this hat on Instagram and I was actually super stoked to receive mine, so I did know I was getting this. It smells absolutely amazing (I’m not sure if it’s supposed to but to be honest I don’t really care) and it fits perfectly on my head. It was made for Canadian winters (ahem, -10 weather we are experiencing right now) and it’s a beautiful creamy white colour, perfect for a white Canadian winter.
Lenity Soap, Serenity and Home Sweet Home
I’m pretty sure the reason my box and my hat smelled absolutely incredible was because of these luscious soaps. They are handmade and even have the name ‘Lenity Soap’ engraved on the front when you take off the label (which slides off really easy I might add). The first is Lemongrass and Cedarwood and it smells just like lemon meringue pie. It comes in the 50g package. The other scent is Lavender and Lime and this soap nailed it with the lavender scent (I just want to eat both of them to be honest, they smell that good). This soap comes in the 100g package, so yay we get more! I also noticed how smooth and creamy they felt to the touch, certainly not rough.
NettleCo Immunity Lolly
I have never received anything like these lollipops before in a subscription box so I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled out two handmade lollipops that seem to be for helping a cold. I could be wrong, but the word ‘immunity’ kind of hints that. They are in the flavours ‘Blackberry and Turkey Tail’ and ‘Pear and Elderberry’ which both sound interestingly delicious. Definitely going to save these for a rainy day.
NettleCo Total Relaxation
Another item from Nettle Co, and this looks like its a serum at first glance and to be honest I thought it was something you drop in the bath to help relax you. I checked the website and it’s actually an herbal blend to help promote stress relief and reduce anxiety. It helps to calm the muscles and ease the mind to help you relax and get a good night’s sleep. I absolutely love the concept of an herbal remedy to help calm me down instead of taking a pill or some form of medication. The only critique I have of this bottle is to have a ‘directions’ label to tell you what to do with it and how many drops you should take, etc. Other than that, I think this is a superb idea and I can’t wait to try it.
Stevia Drops Sweetener All Natural- Hazelnut
I was actually really excited to see that this month’s box came with two types of ‘drops’, but they both have completely different functions and they both are all natural remedies to help promote health and wellness. This is a sweetener which I’m assuming you would put in water, or maybe even food to sweeten up what you’re eating without making you add sugar or unhealthy ingredients to your fave dish. It’s small but I don’t think you need a lot of drops at all to taste the flavor so I’m thinking this bottle will last you a while. Stevia is a South American herb that has been used for natural flavouring for centuries so its no surprise that it must work!
Ever Bamboo Charcoal Drawer Packet Refills
And last but not least is this adorable packet that also smells absolutely unreal. At first glance, I wasn’t sure what exactly this was until I saw the little picture of the drawer and realized these were drawer fresheners. I think this is a great idea because not only is this a product I was NOT expecting at all (but was pleasantly surprised), but it’s something useful that I wouldn’t have thought I needed until I actually started using them. What sets this product apart is that it doesn’t just eliminate bad smells, but it absorbs moisture and acts as both a dehumidifier and deodorizer. It also is made from Bamboo Charcoal and can last up to one year if you put it in the sun every month or so to ‘recharge’. Definitely a different and interesting idea.
Overall I was quite pleased with the Calla Life Box. You honestly couldn’t find a box that offers more natural products, and you are supporting small businesses instead of major corporations that, let’s be honest, don’t really need your money.
